Brunch: District 10 @ UE Square

My sister has always enquired for good brunch places that are kids-friendly, but I was never able to give her a convincing recommendation until my experience at District 10 Bar & Restaurant at UE Square. I can see those question marks forming in your head. Read on to see why!

District 10 is certainly not new to me as my first stint with tapas was at its Star Vista branch a few years back. Last October, the flagship outlet of District 10 at UE Square underwent a physical revamp, showcasing a spruced up new look and menu. Helmed by Chef Luca, who is also a co-owner of Bontá Group, District 10 (under Bontá Group) is certainly in good hands since this great man boasts an extensive culinary wealth – having worked in 7 countries, bestowed with countless awards, and spearheading several successful restaurants. His shift to Singapore was a result of his customer exploring the possibility of co-owning an Italian restaurant here! What adventurous life Chef Luca has!

Bar area.

Huge collections of wines and beers.

Spacious indoor dining that feels luxe yet laid-back. I love how the criss-cross mirrors added extra dimensions, while those wooden ceilings are really tasteful!

Private dining room called Antinori, an association with an illustrious wine family. Glimpses of the Antinori brand can be observed along the walls lined with framed wine labels from the Antinori wine estate, complemented by an Italian handcrafted chandelier as well as designer chairs. The room also offers a customised menu curated by Chef Luca according to budget and specific requests.

The Antinori Private Dining Room comes with a private al-fresco lounge, complete with grass carpet!

Now, not to forget the Bouncy Castle set up on weekends for the little ones! Look at how many families are gathering here on a Saturday morning – no doubt a perfect hangout for the kiddos and their parents! 100% kids-friendly.

District 10 Eggs Benedict with Sauteed Spinach, Smoked Salmon & Hollandaise Sauce ($16) – No brunch comes without these perfect runny egg benedicts and they do take their eggs seriously at District 10. Perfect consistency was achieved across all 4 eggs. Those muffins below were thin, light and perfect for soaking up those runny goodness. One of the better executed egg benedicts!

District 10 Brunch Beef Burger [Charcoal-grilled Black Angus patties topped with fried egg, crispy back bacon, cheddar cheese on a sesame bun & served with natural cut fries] ($20) – This qualifies as finger-looking good for sure. By that, I’m not referring to a certain brand of burgers as this is an entirely league by itself. The patty was grilled to perfection and that charcoal fragrance made it a cut above the rest. What I love next to the patty was actually the buns. They were fluffy, soft, grilled and most importantly, not soggy. Best dish of the brunch!

Pizza with Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang ($29) – I loved everything about this pizza but the topping of wagyu beef cheek. I could not tell that the meat was wagyu and it was a pity that such premium meat had to go to waste on a pizza. That said, Chef Luca successfully incorporated curry flavours to the meat – adding that local touch to traditional Italian. I really liked the crust, which had the right amount of thickness and that thick layer of cheese just melted my heart. I think you’ll be happy to know that pizza-of-the-day (same size as pictured) will be going at $10 nett during Happy Hour from 11am-8pm daily! 😀

Hoegaarden Battered Fish & Chips with Mint Mushy Peas & Tartare Sauce ($22) – Fresh fish is the pre-requisite to a yummy fish & chips and I’m glad District 10 had achieved just that! The crust was extremely crispy while the interior was cooked to a perfect timing. This will be a top pick amongst kids!

Pandan-Coconut Pancake with Gula Melaka Syrup ($9) – Another local-inspired dish by Chef Luca, I thought this had a texture that was more identifiable to nonya-kuehs than pancakes. Not my favourite of the lot but the gula melaka syrup was so good!

Antioxidant – Peach, Green Apple, Mango & Strawberry ($13) – I think I’ll opt for fresh fruit juice the next time round. As the drink was blended, it was a little too heavy and dense for brunch.
District 10 at UE Square has also revitalised their dinner menu with new dishes such as Crispy Goose Leg Confit with Roasted Garlic and Soft Potato Mousse ($26) and Homemade Angel Hair Pasta with Lobster, Peperoncino, Basil and Fresh Tomatoes ($38)! With 3 outlets offering different concepts, diners will be kept busy with different gourmet experiences. Seems like District 10 is the go-to place regardless of time of the day, occasion and company!
