Togi BBQ & Salad Bar @ Triple One Somerset

Togi is one of the more popular Korean restaurants in Singapore, with their original shop at Mosque Street. With their second one at Triple One Somerset, a much more convenient location, I finally headed down to try out their authentic Korean fare. The restaurant has a modern vibe to it with traditional wooden-sandpaper partitions separating tables for more privacy. Its overhanging and wall-framed greens diverted from the usual steel smoke collectors found in most Korean BBQ restaurant. Diners will be glad to know that all BBQ-ing of meats are done for you in the kitchen and for once, you won’t have to leave the restaurant smelling of what you ate.

Free-flow of Banchan (side dishes) and a single serving of porridge! I really liked the porridge which was clean and soothing – a palette cleanser, Korean style.

Seafood Stew ($48) w Ramen ($2), Rice Cake & Dumplings ($3) – I love Korean stews as they are such comfort food to me, especially so after a long day at work. As they are always placed above the stove, the soup within is constantly boiling hot. A very value-for-money stew, Togi was very generous with their seafood – a whole squid, four long crab legs, three prawns, scallops, mussels and clams! More than sufficient for 3-5 people I would say. Add some carbs, which I would highly recommend, and the stew can be a meal on its own already. My only gripe is that the soup was not spicy enough for me to feel truly satisfied but I suppose it’ll be good for diners who can’t take chilli well.

BBQ Grilled Beef w/o Bones ($27) – Maybe we left it aside for too long while we were busy with the stew, I didn’t find this fantastic. Furthermore, $2 was topped up to have the meat come without bones, which should have been a given in my opinion. As for BBQ grilled meat, I will stick to the more traditional DIY restaurants next time.

Complimentary Dessert of Fruits Cocktail

I will come back to Togi just for their stews as the soup base was so addictive that I couldn’t stop scooping more into my bowl. Combined with its heat and spiciness, it definitely whetted my appetite for a hearty meal like this. Service was very good as the staff were attentive and even helped to cut up the seafood even though we wanted to do it ourselves. A $10 voucher was given for my next visit, so see you soon Togi!
